This past week I received a letter from Recorder of Deeds, Sharon Quigley Carpenter regarding property fraud.
"According to the FBI, Property and Mortgage Fraud is the fastest growing white-collar crime. It can be as simple as someone recording a fraudulent document in the County Land Records Offices making it look like they now own your home or property."
On the City's website, you can sign up to have your name or business monitored. You would be notified when a document is recorded with your name match.
What is it?
When someone illegally uses your property for financial gain.
How does it happen?
Someone records a fraudulent document in the Count Land Records Office, making it look like they own your home or property.
Should I be concerned?
Yes, according to the FBI Property and Mortgage Fraud is the fastest growing white-collar crime.
What can I do about it?
Your County Land Records Office has teamed up to create a notification service called Property Fraud Alert!
